Aeration compressors with excellent efficiency

With the new AP series, Gardner Denver Thomas in Puchheim is once again introducing a series of new linear diaphragm compressors.
In contrast to motor drives, linear drives have an armature with a permanent magnet that is moved back and forth between two electromagnets (solenoid) in time with the mains frequency. The armature itself is mounted between the two opposing diaphragms of the pump heads.
This technology reduces the wear parts to a minimum and thus guarantees very long service lives. In practical application, 20,000 operating hours or more are achieved.

The use of Neodym magnetic material made it possible to greatly increase the field strength and thus the efficiency of the linear drive.
At the same time, the size was greatly decreased by increasing the power density.
The data of the new AP series AP-40, AP-60, and AP-80 speaks for itself. For example, the power consumption is only between 0.63 and 0.53 Watts per l/min with a counter-pressure of 150 mbar. The volume flows here are between 46 and 86 l/min. The maximum pressure is now 300 mbar.

All screws for opening the compressor are now accessible from the top and greatly simplify the replacement of the pump block after approx. 20,000 operating hours.
A diaphragm safety switch, which is triggered when the deflection of the armature is too great (caused by transport or in case of a tear in the diaphragm), is also accessible from the top by means of the cover of the filter and thus be reset.

Due to the smaller dimensions and the low weight of only 4.7 kg, installation in switchboxes is simplified, for example.

Linear compressors by Thomas are used in various applications. Manufacturers of small wastewater treatment systems primarily use the technology for the aeration of wastewater and sludge. Due to their excellent efficiency, the compressors are also used for primary air supply in fuel cells.

With the low double-digit million euro agreement running over several years, Jenoptik is expanding its manufacture of sensors for the automotive industry.

Jenoptik’s Optical Systems division and Magna Electronics Europe GmbH & Co. KG have entered a framework agreement for the supply of optical sensors. The agreement in the low double-digit million euros range starts in mid-April 2011 with the technical systems for the new contract installed at Jenoptik’s Triptis, Germany facility. Series production of the sensor will start in the summer of this year. Over and above the framework agreement, Magna and Jenoptik are working together on preparations for further projects.

With the agreement, Jenoptik is enlarging its volume production of systems and modules for sensor technology and imaging applications in the automotive industry. The sensor enables improved protection of pedestrians in the event of frontal collisions. It will be installed on the front end of almost all models of a leading German car maker and is based on the principle of optical information transfer. In the event of a collision, the light intensity in a polymer band changes, thereby giving off a signal which causes a lighting-speed action on the vehicle. This helps to prevent or reduce serious injuries to pedestrians in the event of an accident.

Jenoptik manufactures optoelectronic systems with over 200 employees in Triptis. Jenoptik was awarded the major contract from the automotive industry due to its comprehensive competence in volume production of such modules and systems with particularly high quality requirements. Products manufactured in the last years include 100 million optoelectronic modules and components for medical technology applications. Production at the Triptis site is certified in accordance with the exacting demands of the medical technology and automotive industries.

At present, the Optoelectronic Systems business unit supplies a range of automotive and supplier companies with, for example, components for heads-up displays and optical sensors and components for driver assistance systems such as automatic lane or sign recognition. The Group’s product range for the automotive industry also includes numerous high-technology systems such as metrology for quality assurance, especially in engine production, lasers and laser processing systems for processing interior fittings and body parts as well as imaging and infrared camera modules. Order intake from the automotive and automotive supplier industries has risen sharply in all the above-mentioned areas since the 2nd half-year 2010. Following contributions to sales from the automotive/machine construction industry of over 100 million euros in the 2010 fiscal year, the figure will continue to rise in 2011.

About the Jenoptik Group
As an integrated optoelectronics group Jenoptik operates in the five divisions Lasers & Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense & Civil Systems. Its customers around the world mainly include companies in the semiconductor and semiconductor equipment manufacturing industry, automotive and automotive supplier industry, medical technology, the security and defense technology industry as well as the aviation industry.

With its Optical Systems division Jenoptik is one of the few manufacturers in the world to produce precision optics and systems designed to meet the highest quality standards. Besides opto-mechanical and opto-electronical systems, modules and assemblies the division is a development and production partner for optical, micro-optical and optical coating components– made of optical glass, infrared materials as well as plastic. It possesses outstanding expertise in the development and manufacture of micro-optics for beam shaping used in the semiconductor industry and laser material processing. The product portfolio also includes components and systems for life sciences as well as lighting & energy applications, system solutions and modules for digital image capture and processing as well as cameras for digital microscopy.

Great interest in the Powder Handling and Processing Seminar of Gericke

in Material | Comments (0)

Tags: , , , , , ,

The acquisition of systematic knowledge of particle properties and bulk material behaviour is a big topic in the research and practice. We would like to operate on the design of machines and equipment for bulk processes with scientific knowledge rather than empirical estimates.
This topic was a focus on the very well-attended Gericke Bulk Seminar in Regensdorf,
Switzerland.

The numerous attendees from Europe and overseas followed all presentations and test units with great interest. Gericke has presented a device for measuring particle properties made by Freeman Technology. It provides within a short time a statement on the flow behaviour, the shear forces, fluidizing characteristics and other product data.
Followed by impressive practical demonstrations in the modern Test Centre, where micro feeding devices and continuous and batch mixers have been shown.
In continuous feed rates of less than 500 gr/h, the feeder DIW PE and EASYDOS Pro Controller showed their strengths. They are feeding at this low throughput even in industrial environments reliable and accurate.

The advantages of Gericke dense phase conveying systems, which are based on low product attrition and lower specific power consumption could be pursued with the monitoring of the pressure variation recorded with an inline data acquisition system and in the sight glasses of the conveyor line.

The real attraction was the Multiflux® Mixer GMS C whose impressive mixing tools are made of plain stainless steel. They are extractable and cantilevered. The GMS mixer is suitable for complete mixing of difficult recipes with minor ingredients in the range of per mill ratio, with low application of energy, a contribution to product and resource conservation. The mixing time is definitely less than 1 minute and can therefore produce more batches per hour within the same mixer volume (typically between 300-2800 litres). The retractable version is aimed at high-quality food processes, which search for good accessibility, inspectability and short cleaning times.

Many interesting discussions and exchange of experiences among experts and the excellent atmosphere among the participants led the seminar to a great success. For more information www.gericke.net.
